Minimal Invasive Surgery
Minimally Invasive Surgery provides less trauma with often greater results. Minimally invasive surgery uses highly specialized fiber optic or rigid instruments to allow either no surgery access site or very small surgery access sites. The visualization of the area of interest is intimate and accurate as it is not inferred or interpreted, unlike radiology and ultrasound. Endoscopy often uses normal body orifices such as the mouth, anus, nose or urethra to allow visualization of specific body regions. Laparoscopy uses rigid instruments to access cavities such as the chest or the abdomen. All these instruments not only allow direct visualization of tissue but they offer the opportunity to biopsy, and in some cases, treat specific diseases. This is with a minimal amount of trauma to the patient which results in faster recovery and less pain.
